The Aftermath of the Gyumri Earthquake on Al Jazeera

CivilNet and Al Jazeera collaborate following a Civilnet report on the situation in Gyumri.

The report took an inside look into the lives of families living in temporary shelters, 27 years after the devastating earthquake that left them homeless. We had a discussion with photographer Hayk Barseghyan who, having grown up is a temporary shelter himself, has now initiated a fundraiser to help provide housing for 13 families living in dire conditions. In his interview with CivilNet, Hayk had hoped that international media would also cover the story to help spread the word. Which is what happened, Al Jazeera picked up the story. From around 10 pm till 12 am Yerevan time, Al Jazeera live streamed an extensive coverage of the story, including Twitter posts and discussions with panelists from Armenia; Maria Titizian, Tim Straight, Vardan Partamyan and Hayk Barseghyan, who brought into the table their experiences and views. We wish Hayk the best of luck with his initiative and thank Paul Chaderjian and Al Jazeera for helping get the story out.
