Sabrina Papazian, at the END OF TRANSITION: Armenia 25 Years On. Now What? conference organized by the USC Institute of Armenian Studies in Yerevan, analyzed churches as active spaces which had gone through an evolution from just being imposing religious spaces to becoming cultural, architectural monuments during the Soviet period and also serving as a space for meeting and recreation in addition to being houses of worship. Sabrina Papazian is from the Department of Archeology of the Stanford University where her research focuses on the complex social, political, and economic networks of relations that arise from the financing and management of archaeological cultural heritage in Armenia.
