With the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia, women had an impactful role in the creation of the first government and establishment of rule in society. Women had the right to vote from the time the Republic was established, and also ran for office and became Parliamentarians. Beyond the borders, women like Diana Abcar became consul to Japan as well as a contributor and writer for the Japan Gazette.
Armenian women led the way during the First Republic and were afforded rights that women across the world were slow to receive, including women’s suffrage.
