Dr. Richard Hovannisian, senior scholar on Armenian Studies joins CivlNet to reflect on his start in the field; his early fight against his Armenian identity, the frustration at discovering few texts on Armenian history and his immersion into learning about Armenian history and applying that to an academic setting.
Dr. Hovannisian then discusses the current state of Armenian Studies and what he sees as the future of the field. Finally, on the 100th Anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia, we discuss the significance of the First Republic as it relates to the current, 3rd Republic, which is in it’s 27 years as an independent state.
