Erdogan Reaffirms Ankara’s Allegiance to Baku

“Peace and stability in the Southern Caucasus will be the cornerstone of Turkish foreign policy.” This is what President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced during his official 3-day visit to Azerbaijan, reported the Anadolu Agency.

After extended meetings between the two delegations, the presidents held a joint press conference in Baku. Erdogan specifically stressed, “In [the] case of a solution between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the problems between Turkey and Armenia will also be solved, but otherwise, the problems between Turkey and Armenia will continue to stay as they are.” He went on to say, “We will continue our solidarity in the coming period with the same decisiveness.” It must be noted that this is not the first time Erdogan has made statements of this nature.

He also stated that “Any resolution of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh should take into account Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.”

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev thanked his Turkish counterpart for continuously protecting Azerbaijan’s position, and promised that Azerbaijan’s diplomatic corps and Diaspora, together with Turks will make every effort to “reveal Armenian lies together.”
