Armenia’s Ministry of Defense.
Armenia’s Ministry of Defense issued a statement this evening regarding Azerbaijani attacks on border villages in the Tavush marz of Armenia.
According to the statement, Azerbaijani military forces violated the ceasefire regime on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border using heavy artillery. The Armenian villages on the border have been under heavy artillery shelling, causing fatalities among the civilian population.
As of press time, three Armenian civilians were killed and two others wounded in the attack.
“The Armenian Ministry of Defence declares that the evolving situation is a result of insidious policies of Azerbaijan’s political and military leadership and is bluntly in breach of the peace initiatives by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship,” the statement reads.
“The Republic of Armenia urges the Azerbaijani civilian population on the border areas to refrain from becoming a human shield for the military of Azerbaijan,” the press release says, highlighting that Armenian military forces will take “necessary measures to stabilize the situation, the consequences of which will be on the shoulders of Azerbaijani leadership.”
