In Dastakert village in Armenia’s southern Syunik region, 13-year old Abrik is learning to read and write. In 2020, his mother committed suicide, his father has abandoned the family. Abrik and his four siblings live with their aunt Shogher, who has two other children. The family lives on government benefits and still struggle to make ends meet. CivilNet’s team went to Dastakert to find out more about Abrik and his family.

Georgia’s parliament approved the first reading of a bill on “foreign agents” this week, sparking protests in the capital Tbilisi. The proposed law would require media outlets and non-profit organizations that receive over 20% of their funding from abroad to register as entities influenced by foreign sources. As lawmakers deliberated on the legislation, thousands gathered in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi to protest.
