Moscow and Baku exchange tense statements over Karabakh place names, as fears of new conflict grow

  • Since late last week, Russia’s and Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministries have exchanged a series of tense statements over place names in Karabakh, as fears of a new round of conflict in the region, this time over the crucial Lachin corridor, continue to grow.
  • At the same time, Baku and Stepanakert continue exchanging a near daily stream of ceasefire violation accusations, mirroring previous patterns, where spikes in such accusations presaged Azerbaijani attacks on Karabakh Armenian positions.
