Armenian banks begin blocking Russian transactions for electronics: Business Week
In this week’s edition of CivilNet’s business digest: Armenia’s inflation rate fell sharply from 3.2% to 1.3% last month, but the Central Bank has so far given no indications it plans to cut interest rates. Court finds woman guilty of attempting to kidnap prime minister’s
Two U.S. senators have introduced a resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, now approaching its sixth month. A State Department spokesperson declined to say when a high-level Armenia-Azerbaijan summit in Washington, initially set for next week but then postponed, may take place. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will meet today with Russian President Vladimir Putin. A Yerevan court found Gayane Hakobyan guilty of trying to kidnap Pashinyan’s son, but released her from detention on a four-year suspended sentence.

Armenia-Azerbaijan summit in Washington postponed by Baku
Azerbaijan has provided information to the European Court of Human Rights on the two Armenian servicemen allegedly abducted last month. Armenian foreign minister and newly elected Turkish foreign minister held their first phone call to discuss normalization efforts and ongoing peace negotiations. A planned meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Washington has been postponed at Azerbaijan’s request.

EU border mission to double number of ‘operational hubs’ in
The European Union said it will double the number of “operational hubs” for monitors deployed to the Armenian side of the border with Azerbaijan. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan spoke with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Dereck Hogan in advance of a planned meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart. Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, who co-chairs a working group on restoring regional transit links, met with Toivo Klaar, the EU’s special representative to the South Caucasus. Armenia’s State Revenue Committee said officers intercepted 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine destined for Australia at Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport.
