Critical reservoir in Karabakh dries up amid Azerbaijan’s blockade

Sarsang, located in the Martakert region, is the largest reservoir in Karabakh. Its water volume has reached a critical level, and residents and local authorities fear the reservoir will completely dry up in the near future. In addition to food and medical shortages, Azerbaijan’s blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh has severely disrupted gas and electricity supplies. To substitute for the shortages and supply electricity for the population, authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh have been releasing large amounts of water from the reservoir. CivilNet’s Artsakh team visited the Sarsang Reservoir and spoke to specialists to find out what a dry reservoir will mean for the population and the environment.
