Armenian citizens regularly express concerns about the state of littering in the country. From cigarette buds to large household items, countless streets, parks, and areas of natural beauty have been inundated with trash.
Hakob Mikoyan is the founder of the ‘Littering is Shameful’ NGO, which works to raise public awareness about the country’s littering problem. According to Mikoyan, social awareness is key. Almost everyday he goes to a specific location in Yerevan or in the country’s regions, sometimes with a group or even alone, and collects trash. CivilNet’s team caught up with Mikoyan as he was clearing litter in Yerevan’s Victory Park, with the assistance of Indian students who are attending university in Armenia.
