Armenian banks halt transfers via Russia’s Unistream: THIS WEEK IN BUSINESS

  • A number of banks in Armenia, as well as in Georgia and several Central Asian countries, stopped processing international money transfers via Russia’s Unistream.
  • Armenia’s economic activity index, a measure closely corresponding to GDP growth, grew by more than 11% in the first half of the year.
  • Armenia’s 1,000 biggest companies paid more than $2 billion in taxes from January through June. Firms involved in mining, energy, tobacco production, and banking dominated the top taxpayers list.
