“We take into the statement that Nagorno-Karabakh’s authorities released,” Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on a Facebook livestream Wednesday, in reference to the ceasefire agreement brokered by Russia earlier in the day.
The Russian peacekeepers have “fully assumed responsibility” for Nagorno-Karabakh’s roughly 120,000 Armenians, he continued. “We hope that by taking such a step, the peacekeeping contingent will fulfill its duties.”
Earlier Wednesday, Stepanakert agreed to fully disarm and disband its armed forces and remove all heavy military equipment and weaponry from Nagorno-Karabakh, in return for a ceasefire that came into force at 1 PM local time.
“The Republic of Armenia did not take part in the formulation of that text in any way and has not been a party to those discussions,” Pashinyan said. “We will continue to follow the developments.”
