Russian-led military bloc says waiting for Armenia to ‘clarify’ future relations

  • Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan rallied his supporters in front of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender’s Office, demanding an independent probe into alleged cases of disproportionate use of force by police officers against anti-government protesters.
  • Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan called on Turkey to implement an agreement reached two years ago to partially reopen its border with Armenia, which as of now is still closed.
  • Mirzoyan also said he does not believe Armenia’s constitution poses an obstacle in ongoing efforts to reach a normalization deal with Azerbaijan, contradicting Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who has called for Armenia’s constitution to be overhauled.
  • The head of the Collective Security Treaty Organization said he expects Armenia to “clarify the prospects for their relations” with the Russian-led military bloc. Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he had “frozen” Armenia’s membership in the alliance.
