    The European Union said it will double the number of “operational hubs” for monitors deployed to the Armenian side of the border with Azerbaijan. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan spoke with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Dereck Hogan in advance of a planned meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart. Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, who co-chairs a working group on restoring regional transit links, met with Toivo Klaar, the EU’s special representative to the South Caucasus. Armenia’s State Revenue Committee said officers intercepted 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine destined for Australia at Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport.

Gayane Hakobyan, who lost her son in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war and stands accused of trying to kidnap Ashot Pashinyan, was taken back into custody hours after a court ordered her to be freed from pre-trial detention and placed under house arrest.

    By Mark Dovich The Russian company that owns Sotk, Armenia’s largest gold mine, said last week it had indefinitely suspended open-pit operations at the site, citing shelling from Azerbaijan. “Further work at the Sotk open pit has become impossible due to circumstances beyond the company’s control,” GPM Gold was quoted as saying last week by Sputnik Armenia. The company said that more than 700 people who work at the mine had been placed on unpaid leave.
