“The consistent strengthening of partnership between Armenia and Georgia is one of Armenia’s important policy priorities,” remarked Serzh Sargsyan during an official visit to Tbilisi on June 18 during which he held talks with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili.
“The fragile state of peace and stability in the South Caucasus is largely contingent upon
Armenian-Georgian cooperation, efficiency, and strength. We have always respected each
other’s decisions, recognizing that the individual strength of each state is of utmost importance and this has pleased us, because Armenia and Georgia are strong together and with each other,” the President Sargsyan said. He underscored that in 2013 and in the current year, bilateral trade between the two countries grew significantly.
“We also touched upon, of course, the ongoing participatory process of Armenia’s integration into the Eurasian region. With particular emphasis on the context of mutually beneficial economic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia, we presented our Georgian colleagues with information about activities undertaken and future plans. I am deeply convinced that with the signing of the Association Agreement on June 27, Georgia will be creating opportunities for Armenian businessmen who see their participation in the European market, and the opposite is also true; Armenia’s ascension into the Customs Union opens new prospects for Georgian investment in Armenia for those Georgian companies that have or can have potential markets in the Russian Federation or other Customs Union countries,” stated Serzh Sargsyan.
Both presidents affirmed their commitment to settle all conflicts peacefully and in accordance with the principles of international law.
Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili had made an official visit to Armenia on February 27. Serzh Sargsyan’s last official visit to Georgia was in November 2011.
