Jack Matlock, the last US ambassador to the USSR, presented a talk entitled “The End and the Beginning” at a conference entitled END OF TRANSITION: Armenia 25 Years On. Now What?, organized by the USC Institute of Armenian Studies in Yerevan, on May 23-24, 2017 in Yerevan. The first leg of this international conference took place April 9-10, 2017 at the University of Southern California. CivilNet LIVE streamed the conference. Ambassador Jack Matlock is a career diplomat who served on the front lines of American diplomacy during the Cold War and was the last U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union when the Cold War ended. During his 35 years in the US Foreign Service, Matlock also served as Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for European and Soviet Affairs on the National Security Council Staff.
