Demand for high quality Armenian coffee has been on the uptick in the past decade. The age-old beverage was being served to a new generation of drinkers at Innovate Armenia - the festival of ideas and action that took place at the University of Southern California on May 18. Hundreds lined up at the festival’s Dialects of Coffee space to taste free samples of Armenian coffee from Henry’s House of Coffee and Kavat Coffee, while journalist Liana Aghajanian talked and recorded conversations about the memories that Armenian coffee evoked. Hrag Kalebjian’s family has been roasting and serving coffee for three generations, and he now continues the tradition at Henry’s House of Coffee in San Francisco. Innovate Armenia is organized by the USC Institute of Armenian Studies. The program featured fifty participants, from six countries, and nearly 4,000 attendees. This is the fourth time in five years that this unique event has been staged by the Institute.
