Teghut. Ecological, Legal and Economic Collapse

In 2007, prior to the Teghut copper and molybdenum open-pit mine exploitation in Northern Armenia, Vallex Group assured that Teghut would be an exemplary mine, that all environmental norms would be maintained, a proper tailings dam would be created, no rivers in the area would be polluted, and a larger forest area would be planted for the one destroyed. In January 2018, Vallex Group fired 1,200 mine employees and halted the mine exploitation. Despite many requests, Vallex Group hasn’t provided any information about the reason for the halt and continuing environmental degradation in the area.

CivilNet attempts to understand the environmental, legal and economic consequences of the Teghut Mine exploitation.
