By Ani Paitjan

A Russian serviceman from the 102nd Military Base in Gyumri, the second largest city in Armenia, has been arrested. He is suspected of murdering 57-year old street cleaner Julieta Ghazaryan on December 2.

“A soldier of the Russian military base, who is being accused of the murder, has been detained,” said the head of the public relations department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Arevik Khachatryan.

Julieta Ghazaryan was severely beaten in the morning while doing her job, according to Khachatryan. She died on the way to the hospital.

Investigations are underway.

This is not the first time that such an incident has taken place in Gyumri. On January 12, 2015, Valery Permyakov, a Russian serviceman, also from the Russian 102nd military base, cruelly murdered seven members of the Avetisyan family (Seryoja Avetisyan, Hasmik Avetisyan, Aida Avetisyan, Armen Avetisyan, Araksya Poghosyan and Hasmik Avetisyan).

Valery Permyakov was sentenced to life in prison by the Armenian court but was sent to Russia to serve his sentence.
