Dastakert: The Armenian Ghost Town

Dastarkert is one of the smallest cities in Armenia, located in Syunik Province in the southern part of the country. It once served as the resting place for monks from Tatev monastery. Dastarkert is known for its copper and molybdenum minerals. But, as the Soviet Union began to collapse in the late 1980s, the town’s factories began to close leading to a mass emigration that nearly emptied the town.
