Daron Acemoglu: The Positive and Negative Role of the Diaspora

Daron Acemoglu, one of the top ten economists of the world spoke at the conference “Armenia & Diaspora after Sasna Tsrer”, organized on September 10 by Armenian Renaissance, a Toronto based organization. Acemoglu, the co-author of “Why Nations Fail” spoke about his concept of inclusive and extractive institutions. He compared the political situation in Armenia with other countries which have gone through a similar path. Acemoglu stressed that the Diaspora has a dual role in Armenia – positive and negative.
