In a speech at the National Assembly Serzh Sargsyan announced that, “The post of the Prime Minister under a parliamentary governance system cannot be compared to the post the President in a semi-presidential system. The Prime Minister will always remain under the control of the parliament.”

Sargsyan’s nomination and election has been met with large-scale demonstrations led by head of Civil Contract Party of Armenia and leader of parliamentary “Yelq” Alliance Nikol Pashinyan.

Referring to Pashinyan, Sargsyan urged the “Yelq” alliance to “bring their colleague back to the assembly from the streets.”
