Last week, the world’s attention was focused on the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. As Armenians in the Republic of Armenia and throughout the Diaspora commemorated the 100th anniversary of the first genocide of the 20th century, international media outlets provided unprecedented coverage of the events taking place around the world.
Thousands of articles and reports were prepared by leading print and broadcast media organizations, calling attention to the Genocide and its denial by the government of Turkey.
The hashtag #ArmenianGenocide was trending on Twitter on April 24, the day Armenians commemorate as the start of the Genocide as that was the day that Armenian intellectuals were arrested and first sent to the Haydarpasha Train Station in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) and from there to the depths of the Ottoman Empire, where the vast majority were slaughtered.
