Greek Parliament Adopts Bill Criminalizing Denial of Armenian Genocide

With a vote of 54 to 42 with three abstentions, the Greek parliament passed a bill on September 9 that will criminalize the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

The bill, “Fight Against Xenophobia” will bring criminal charges against those who deny the Armenian Genocide and other crimes against humanity, including the Holocaust and the Pontus Greek Genocide. The bill envisages fines and imprisonment.

Greece is the third country in Europe to adopt such a measure. Similar bills have been adopted in Switzerland and Slovakia.
