Ronald Suny: Armenians in the USSR

Ronald Grigor Suny, Emeritus Professor of Political Science and History at the University of Chicago, presented a five-part lecture series at the Hrant Dink Foundation in Istanbul under the theme of "Armenians and Armenia in the Age of Extremes." In part three, Professor Suny describes the complexities of Armenian life in the former Soviet Union.

Part one examines the early formation of national identity under the Russian and Ottoman Empires.

Part two explores the experiences of Ottoman- and Russian-Armenians in the final years of imperial rule.

Part four describes the unique characteristics of the global Armenian diaspora, and examines the complex relationship between the diaspora and the Republic of Armenia.

Part five explains how history has shaped the modern-day Armenian experience.
