According to the 2019 Democracy Index by The Economist, Armenia has jumped 17 places, from 103rd to 86th place, surpassing neighboring Georgia. The report gives a special mention to the good conduct of the 2018 parliamentary elections in the country.
The Index gives a review of “the state of world democracy” for 165 independent states and two territories. It is based on five categories: electoral process and pluralism; civil liberties; the functioning of government; political participation; and political culture.
