Roughly 4,000 Ukrainian citizens have crossed the border into Armenia in the last three weeks, according to Denis Avtonomov, the Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires in Armenia. Avtonomov stated this on March 17, adding that almost all the migrants in question are ethnic Armenians.

“They have relatives, friends and a place to stay here,” Avtonomov said.

The Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires says that many of these Ukrainian citizens are having issues with finding work in Armenia.

The United Nations estimates that the number of refugees from Ukraine has reached three million, of which 1.4 million are children.

The Russo-Ukrainian war has also sparked an exodus from Russia. While precise numbers are hard to come by, Yerevan’s Zvartnots airport has seen a significant rise in the number of inbound flights from Russia, and Yerevan residents have reported a notable increase in the amount of Russian being spoken on the city’s streets.
