Robert Koptas on how the peaceful protest in Istanbul turned violent

On August 25, Turkish police violently interrupted the “Saturday Mothers” group’s peaceful protest in Istanbul using water cannons and tear gas on dozens of citizens. A number of well-known Istanbul-Armenians took part in the protest, including Member of Parliament Garo Paylan, Hrant Dink’s son, Ara Dink, and editor-in-chief of “Aras” Publishing House and former editor-in-chief of Agos, Rober Koptas. Koptas was arrested along with other demonstrators by police. How did a peaceful protest turn violence and what is the atmosphere in Turkey today? Stella Mehrabekyan speaks with Mr. Koptas.
