U.S. Ambassador John Heffern, Russian Ambassador Ivan Volynkin, and French Chargé d’Affaires Isabelle Guisnel called on Vigen A. Sargsyan, Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic of Armenia on August 7. The ambassadors from the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries expressed condolences to the families of soldiers who lost their lives during recent events along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact and along the international border of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The Chief of Staff provided an update on the current situation to the officials, who on their part urged restraint and de-escalation of tensions from all sides. They also called for strict respect of the ceasefire agreement, and expressed hope that the upcoming meetings in Sochi between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will contribute to the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
